Flame Health Optometry mentioned not too long ago that Optical professionals needed to re register with the GOC before the March 31st deadline.
It is disappointing to hear that the GOC has removed 93 optometrists and 102 dispensing opticians from the register. Unfortunately these practitioners are unable to practice until their registration is restored. And this now comes at a hefty cost of £330.
Are you an optometrist or a dispensing optician who missed the deadline? Are you now losing out because you can’t practice? What were your reasons that the deadline was missed. Please let Flame Health Optometry know.

The GOC is urging all Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians to apply for their renewal before the deadline of March 15th.
The cost of renewal has come as good news to the optical world as the fee has been reduced for the second year running. The cost now sits at £260.
Those who fail to meet this deadline will face a £20 deadline fee and those who do not apply by March 31st risk being removed from the register from April 1st.
Head of registration, Philip Hallam, said: “Registration is an important legal requirement for optical professionals and businesses. I’d encourage all registrants to apply without delay.”

Optometry and dispensing students can now renew their GOC registration online. All students must complete the renewal process by 15th July or face being removed from registers.
It is a legal requirement to be registered with the GOC. To renew their retention students must complete an online application and pay £20 by the July deadline. Those who fail to meet the deadline will have to pay a £10 late application penalty fee, whilst students who fail to renew by August 31st face being removed from the register in September.

Following on from last weeks GOC retention deadline, 203 practitioners have been removed from the optical registers. This number is from those who failed to complete the online registration on time. Those who wish to continue practising must now pay £340 to have their
registration restored.
Samantha Peters, chief executive and registrar had said, “We’re delighted that the online retention system has allowed our registrants to complete their retention so easily. To have such good figures for the first year of operation shows it works well.”
Are you an optical professional who missed out on the deadline? How do you feel about paying the £340 fine? Or are you an optical professional who used the new online system? How did you find it? Please let Flame Health know your thoughts.
