REC’s October Jobs Outlook

// October 28th, 2011

The REC’s latest Job Outlook report has revealed that although employer confidence remains fragile, there are signs that employers are becoming more confident about longer-term hiring intentions.

This is obviously great news for employees on the job market.

The report found that over the next 12 months, 42 per cent of employers are planning to grow their permanent staff while another 48 per cent say they intend to keep it at the same level as today.

Commenting on the latest data, Roger Tweedy, the REC’s Director of Research said:

“The underlying trend this month is one of improvement in employers’ optimism about their future hiring intentions. Though the overall scores have only fluctuated slightly over the past month, the last three months of data show that there are definite signs that confidence is returning.

“Employers will continue to err on the side of caution on how they shape their workforces in both the short and long-term. However, the ongoing feedback from recruitment professionals confirms that businesses in many sectors are still looking to attract workers with the right talent despite the difficult economic climate. This explains the slight upturn in hiring intentions and confirms that job opportunities are still out there.”

Flame Health can certainly agree with Roger Tweedy. Our clients are still communicating with us on a weekly basis in terms of their needs. Along with existing clients Flame Health are updating their new client database and this week have acquired new business within Pharmacy and Pharma.

August Report on Jobs.

// September 14th, 2011

Permanent staff placements rose in August, similar to a rate from July, the Report on Jobs published by the REC and KPMG stated.  There was also a strong rise in candidate availability. This is the strongest rise since January 2010. However the number of vacancies available was at a low, the lowest in 9 months.

In terms of salaries, permanent staff salaries increased only marginally and at the slowest pace for 22 months in August.

Kevin Green, the REC’s Chief Executive says:

“The latest Report on Jobs from the REC and KPMG highlights the robustness of the UK jobs market. In the face of a slowing economy, falling consumer confidence and high inflation, private sector employers continue to hire staff. The numbers are lower than three months ago but placements continued to rise in August, which was the twenty-fifth consecutive month of growth. “The UK jobs market is being incredibly resilient. Even with increasing job losses in the public sector and a new influx of school-leavers it is performing much better than many predicted.”

As a job seeker, what are your thoughts on the August report?

As there is a high number of candidate availability, are you on the look out for new opportunities? Flame Health are keen to speak to people within the Dentistry, Optometry, Pharmacy, Clinical and Pharmaceutical sectors. Flame Health is not a job board, we publish details of our own client’s job vacancies on our website which you can search through and apply for confidentially.
